Fair Trade on the Highstreet

As well as the splendid selection of specialist fashion lines, some of your favourite highstreet stores now stock a range of ethically traded clothes...

Topshop- we mentioned their clothes before, but they're certainly worth bringing up again!
http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&productId=1678523&langId=-1&categoryId=&parent_category_rn= Start with this sexy fabulous dress!

Dorothy Perkins- DP has this beautiful pink blouse in stock at the moment; perfect for the summer!
http://www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=20552&storeId=12552&productId=1626279&langId=-1&categoryId=&parent_category_rn= :-)

Marks and Spencer-
http://www.marksandspencer.com/Greener-Living/b/344919031 M&S has simply LOADS of ethical products, especially worthy of note are their very reasonably priced basics- vest tops etc. Take A Look!

We still love those specialist retailers. In fact we adore them. But its fantastic that we're starting to see the beginnings of a REVOLUTION and fairly traded fashion is all around us. Let's dream of the day when all fashion is ethically produced as standard- it CAN happen!!! We can give it a splendid start by visiting these stores (don't forget those chariry shops!) and stocking up for the summer months!

Love. Justice.

Jollity :-)

A few jolly thoughts...
.
.
Did you know Topshop stock some Fairtrade clothing? Over the past couple of years they've sold sweaters, bags and even knickers. This season they've got hotpants, tunics and this ever-so-sexy dress http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&productId=1678523&langId=-1&categoryId=&parent_category_rn= SPLENDID!
.
.
Have you found us on Twitter??? We are www.twitter.com/CFFashion. We'd love some more followers and on our feed we suggest "products of the day" and give lots of links and tips about a fairly traded lifestyle.
.
.
Also, a shout out to this People Tree nightie; slinky, glamorous and fair! http://www.peopletree.co.uk/products/embroidered-slip-dress/
.
.
Remember, when you buy fairly traded fashion you emancipate men, women and children in the developing world. You tell them they deserve the most basic of human rights and you let them know you care. You take a stand against abuse, slavery and humiliation - get out and do it!

WHY BUY FAIRTRADE?

The sad fact is that in factories the world over, people's human rights are being eroded and ignored. Children are forced to work like adults, people are used like slaves; often sold by their families into bondage to repay debts, wages are too low to live on, workers have no freedom of association and are made to work in an inhumane enviroment; beaten and abused. In the western world, we too often take for granted the right to sick leave, maternity, unions, a living wage and the right to work without fear. These people experience conditions we can't even imagine on a daily basis, and unwittingly fund and support it when we buy clothes made this way. The alternative is ethical shopping. Cornflower does not officially support boycotts of any label except those instigated by the workers themselves, however what we do encourage is rewarding good manufacturing practice. It is far better to actively buy fairly traded fashion than ignore the situtation, our brothers and sisters need us. when you buy a fairly traded garment, the producer is paid fairly, their basics rights are protected and you support the flourishing ethical retail industry; soon un-ethical labels will be forced to reform to keep up with consumer demand.

On this blog, Cornflower will be having a weekly look at what’s out there in the world of ethical clothing and her splendid models will be showing off the very best there is! Fairly traded fashion can change people’s lives and it is now so widely available everyone can join in!

FAIRLY TRADED FASHION
Fairly traded or ethical fashion means that clothes and accessories have been produced in an environment that treats the producers fairly. This means that the cotton growers and those involved in clothing manufacture receive a living wage for their labour, their rights at work (freedom of association, a suitable working environment and the right to form unions, for example) are protected, women and men receive equal wages, children are protected from slave labour, workers are free from physical, emotional and sexual abuse and local communities are invested in. Working for an ethical company empowers people in the developing world to improve not only their quality of life but the life of their families and communities; a fair wage is a basic human right, it is an expression of JUSTICE. Clothing that's not ethically produced means exploitation and injustice; it's all about rewarding good practice, the more ethical products you buy the more can be made and the impact of fair trading can grow and grow.

WESTRAY- A FAIRTRADE ISLAND

Westray and its neighbour Papay are two stunningly beautiful islands that form part of the Orkney Islands, just off the north coast of Scotland. Not only is the scenery breathtakingly fabulous but both islands have registered Fairtrade status! This means that despite their remote position, you can buy all of your favourite Fairtrade snacks and provisions as well as more exotic products like Fairtrade mulled wine, seeds and gardening supplies- a haven of fairly traded love! Jump on the ferry to Orkney mainland and you’ll also find Trenabies Gift Shop- a dedicated ethical trading shop (see Kate’s Korner) stacked full of fairly traded dresses, casual and smart clothes, jewellery and scarfs.
